RBI guidelines to receiving money through Western Union :
- Customers have to declare details such as purpose of remittance and give the details of the Sender
- Any single Remittance should not exceed USD 2,500 or its equivalent
- Any payment above Rs. 50,000/- shall be made by A/C payee cheque for the whole amount
- An individual can receive maximum 30 transactions in a calendar year
- Foreign nationals, who produce their passport with Visa (where applicable), can be paid in cash the full amount in INR, maximum amount not exceeding USD 2,500
- Minors are not eligible to receive money through Western Union
- No commercial transaction can be paid through this mode of transfer
- Outbound money transfer through this channel is not allowed
Photo identification proofs that are accepted:
- Visits for international conference, trainings, study tour, etc. are treated as business visits
- Passport
- Voters Identity Card
- PAN card along with address proof such as Utility Bills, Nationalized Bank Account statements
